The Oklahoma State University (OSU) Library Digital Scholarship Center (DSC) has an opening for a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) starting Fall 2024. The position will play an important role in the operation of the new DSC.

What You'll Do

About Digital Scholarship at Edmon Low Library

The DSC is part of the Edmon Low Library’s newly renovated lower level. When completed, the space will serve as a hub for students and scholars to collaborate on projects, participate in workshops, and access specialized software, hardware, and expertise.

Major duties and Responsibilities

In this role, the GRA will be responsible for scheduling student assistants and spaces, providing consultations in the Collaborative Scholarship Lab (CSL), teaching some workshops, and overseeing day to day operations in the CSL and the Interactive Workshop Space.

The GRA will report to the Maps and Spatial Data Curator.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal qualities and competencies, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following: text mining and analysis, data visualization, GIS, computer vision, digital storytelling, network analysis, R and/or Python.
  • Ability to learn new programs

Education:

Applicants must be admitted to and meet the requirements of the Graduate College, be fully admitted to a graduate degree program, and be under the supervision of an appropriate graduate faculty member.

Period of work and stipend:

The GRA is required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the hours that the DSL is open (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Monthly stipend will be $1,400.

This appointment, like all graduate student positions, is subject to satisfactory progress toward your degree, satisfactory performance of assigned duties, availability of sufficient funds, and compliance with all academic departments, Library, Graduate College and University rules, regulations, and requirements. This appointment may be renewed based on those same conditions.

Your 0.50 FTE assistantship requires you to enroll in at least six (6) credit hours of eligible graduate coursework relevant to your degree each semester (fall/spring) in which you have assistantships totaling 0.50 FTE. All graduate teaching and research assistants/associates (GTAs/GRAs) with qualifying 0.50 FTE appointments, such as yours, receive a full tuition waiver for eligible graduate courses; fees cannot be

waived. With qualifying GTA or GRA appointments, graduate students are eligible for tuition waivers for the number of graduate credit hours designated in their graduate degree program. In addition to the above compensation and tuition benefit, the single-person health insurance premium will be paid on your behalf, given your qualifying assistantship (at least 0.25 FTE)
