The Oklahoma State University (OSU) Library Archives has an opening for a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) for the Fall 2024. The position would play an important role in the identification of digital archives materials to increase their visibility and access.

Position is open until filled.

What You'll Do

In this role, the GRA will be responsible for preparing large sets of digital assets, originating from photographs and other associated archival materials, to apply machine learning (or deep learning) techniques and train neural networks to enhance the discovery and access of digital collections held in the University Archives.

The GRA will work closely with the Director of Digital Curation.

Required Qualifications

Education: Applicants must be admitted to and meet the requirements of the Graduate College, be fully admitted to a graduate degree program, and be under the supervision of an appropriate graduate faculty member.

Required

  • Knowledge of Python, possibly Java, computer vision, TensorFlow, Keras libraries, and PyTorch framework
  • Experience with command line
  • Strong analytic and writing skills
  • Ability to learn new programs
  • Strong interpersonal qualities and competencies, communication, and organizational skills
  • Excellent documentation practices
  • Ability to work independently

The GRA is required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. Digital Archives operate Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This appointment, like all graduate student positions, is subject to satisfactory progress toward your degree, satisfactory performance of assigned duties,  availability of sufficient funds, and compliance with all academic departments, Library, Graduate College and University rules, regulations, and requirements. This appointment may be renewed based on those same conditions.

Your 0.50 FTE assistantship requires you to enroll in at least six (6) credit hours of eligible graduate coursework relevant to your degree each semester (fall/spring) in which you have assistantships totaling 0.50 FTE. All graduate teaching and research assistants/associates (GTAs/GRAs) with qualifying 0.50 FTE appointments, such as yours, receive a full tuition waiver for eligible graduate courses; fees cannot be waived. With qualifying GTA or GRA appointments, graduate students are eligible for tuition waivers for the number of graduate credit hours designated in their graduate degree program. In addition to the above compensation and tuition benefit, the single-person health insurance premium will be paid on your behalf, given your qualifying assistantship (at least 0.25 FTE).
