ETL - Education and Teaching Library Student Assistant

The Education and Teaching Library has openings for Student Assistant positions for Summer 2024. The student assistant works in conjunction with the Education and Teaching Librarian and Library Coordinator. This is not a graduate research assistant position or a graduate assistant position.

Summer Operating Hours:

  • Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

This posting is to hire for the summer, but if you are interested in also continuing in the Fall, please indicate your interest in your cover letter and include your Fall 2024 class schedule. A student working during the Fall semester can expect to work 8-12 hours each week.

Fall Operating Hours:

  • Monday thru Thursday 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

What You'll Do

  • Work at the information/circulation desk, checking books out and handling returns
  • Shelve books
  • Answer basic research and directional questions, as well as answer the telephones
  • Refer difficult questions to the Education and Teaching Librarian
  • Assist patrons with identifying and locating materials
  • Assist patrons with library computers, printers, scanners, and other equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Must be self-motivated and demonstrate a high degree of responsibility by showing up for assigned shifts
  • Must be able to work with and communicate effectively with the public in person and by phone
  • Be able to problem solve on the fly to help students with their library-related needs

MUST BE ENROLLED AT OSU.  Work Study encouraged.

Desired Qualifications

  • General computer literacy
  • Basic research experience

Students will learn the basic functions of a library, be paid for their work, and understand the importance of contributing to a work environment. They will learn skills such as customer service and organization as well as practice transferable skills like being at work on time and following a project through to completetion.
